Daytime Comets
03:58
|
|||
Satellites and virucide everywhere we go
But I don't mind if you don't mind, so just say so
They say it's not paranoia, it's just precaution
Feels like it's unfair to know how to control the wind
Salad days back riverside, everyone says so
Morale's at an all-time high, but I can't find my flow
Just wanna impress my friends, that's how I measure success
They say it's not a contest, but they only want the best
This'll pass like a daytime comet, barely time to think about it
Then we'll laugh like we're in on it, moving fast right on from it
Lightning strikes in your mind, thunder in your chest
Feeling like the end is nigh, you can't get any rest
I know how much it can weigh on you, do whatever helps
Just wish I could calm the chaos, give you back to yourself
This'll pass like a daytime comet, barely time to dwell upon it
Then we'll laugh like we're in on it, moving fast right on from it

Everybody's Eyes
03:22
|
|||
Some boys can paint such a pretty picture
of a social scene that keeps getting richer
Surround themselves with surrogate stargazers
Some boys are believers, some are chasers
Everybody's eyes are glued to you
Watching and wondering
what you're gonna do
Everybody's eyes, everybody's eyes, everybody's eyes
Everybody's eyes are glued to you
Sworn to secrecy like the poems under his pillow
He'll tell you his family tree is a weeping willow
If these walls could talk. would they apologize?
When you're sworn to secrecy you learn to love a lie
Everybody's eyes are glued to you
Watching and wondering
what you're gonna do
Everybody's eyes, everybody's eyes, everybody's eyes
Everybody's eyes are glued to you
Everybody's eyes are glued to you
Watching and wondering
what you're gonna do
Everybody lies, everybody tries, everybody dies
Everybody's fine except for you

Parallel Lines
04:39
|
|||
It was one hell of an experience in a ridiculous place
Immature but still serious, we both stayed babyfaced
Sundials on the ground, sand dollars in the sky
See you in the rear view when the tide is getting high
I think I’m outta my mind
Trying to fight the hands of time
Even though we became intertwined
We belong on parallel lines
Magnetic like words making poetry on the fridge
But pragmatic as birds taking a taxi over a bridge
And now my shadow won’t even show its face
No, I know, I know, it’s a waste, waste, waste, waste, waste
I think I’m outta my mind
Trying to fight the hands of time
Even though we became intertwined
We belong on parallel lines
With sundials on the ground and sand dollars in the sky
I’ll see you in the rear view mirror from time to time

Burst
01:36
|
|||
You told me when you died
They put you in the ground
Now you think that they lied
When they said you’d live on a cloud
So I wrote your name on a firework,
Blasted it into space
Watched you bloom above the earth,
Lighting up my face

Kinds of Contact
02:32
|
|||
So first off, how dare you?
This is common-ground overkill
Snakes and syrup, bees in my juice
They’re buzzing in my throat still
You have a soft spot for soft-rock
But you still play hard to get
You think it’s so hot when we don’t talk
Until the end of the weekend
Your eyes, your hands, and heart
Were made to make all kinds of art
But when they make a little time
Let’s make the kinds of contact
We make in my mind
So I make the distance long
In hopes that your heart grows tall
Think I got that expression wrong
But I swear I’m credible
Your eyes, your hands, and heart
Were made to make all kinds of art
But when they make a little time
Let’s make the kinds of contact
We make in my mind
Your eyes, your hands, and heart
Were made to make all kinds of art
But when they make a little time
Let’s make the kinds of contact
We make in my mind
Living in a flashback
Trying hard not to regret
So when I come back, don’t call it that
We’ll pretend I never left

All These Houses
02:58
|
|||
I was just a ghost pissin' in the wind
'Til some strangers came and took me in
There's an all-night diner down the street
We'd always rather eat than sleep
Playing acoustic just in case
They shut off the electric 'cause you didn't pay
When the daytime dies
All these houses come alive
When the daytime dies
Found this old photo on the street
Of Margaret Cho with a parakeet
Let's hang it up over the couch
Let's have everyone over, get fucking loud
When the daytime dies
All these houses come alive
When the daytime dies
Cat's tail tapping a cut-time beat
Voices bouncing down the street
Yeah, it's shabby, but it's still shelter
And it doesn't really matter 'cause we sure have had worse
When the daytime dies
All these houses come alive
When the daytime dies

Vowels
02:38
|
|||
There’s a steady hum in the walls
And I hear it outside too
Trains are picking up people
But I’ll stay here with you
Used to thumbtack posters to the wall
Now I put them in frames
Used to come right over whenever you called
Now the address is the same
You and I are vowels
Making ends meet
Meeting in the middle
Altruistic, complete
Sit on the couch like a late-night show
Sipping our mugs of wine
We’ll take turns playing guest and host
To let each other shine
You and I are vowels
Making ends meet
Meeting in the middle
Altruistic, complete
There’s a steady hum in the walls
And I hear it outside too
Cars are delivering people
I hope that one is you

Before the Afterthought
04:01
|
|||
Reborn in the beam of the flashing neon lights
Inhaling the steam of a city summer night
There's a brick on my back, an itch I gotta scratch
It's a recurring dream
The comfort of someone saying
"I see the same things you see"
One can half-empty and the other is half-full
No need to decide because you just drank them both
Things are always better before they become
Not as good as they used to be
It's got you feeling so dazed and dumb
Hindsight is WD-40
And now you wanna get out
Before the afterthought comes around
And rewrites so much of the plot
That you don't know what it's about
Like a landmark it's forever been around
Some still preserve it, some say it deserves a hole in the ground
It fits like a glove, hits like a drug, it's like the word that makes the rhyme
And every single night they lay it all on the line
And they don't even mind if they don't make a dime
And now you wanna get out
Before the afterthought comes around
And rewrites so much of the plot
That you don't know what it's about

Scent of Mint
05:42
|
|||
Watching Wheel of Fortune on a tiny kitchen TV
While his dad waits to hear the numbers for the New York Lottery
They sat wide-eyed every night, hypnotized by a promised prize
Went to bed empty-handed but woke up feeling fine
On the hospital bed her stroke-stricken mom
Surrounded by aunts and uncles was barely hanging on
The plastic peeled off of the bottle of gift shop holy water
Her mom came to and said "Thank God for my atheist daughter"
And when we wait to win we'll just wind up stuck
Probably be better off if we just summon some pluck
Let Abe Lincoln on the sidewalk stare at the sun
The days of fearing broken mirrors are done
Born the 7th of the month, proud of his Irish blood
The day it dripped down on the road and mixed in with the mud
He went through the windshield, just walked it off
Head pouring red like he's Pollock painting
Miles to the front door where his family was waiting
And when they wait to win they'll just wind up stuck
Probably be better off if they just summon some pluck
Let Abe Lincoln on the sidewalk stare at the sun
The days of counting cloverleaves are done
I appreciate the sentiment
But I don't need it...
